Visiting any Disney property comes with the expectation that you, at some point, we’ll get the chance to go on some fantastic rides. Disney Cruise Line, although offers a more bespoke experience, is no different.
All 5 Disney ships have waterslides available to sailing guests.
These are:
- Disney Magic with the Aqua Dunk
- Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream offer the Aqua Duck
- Disney Wish has the Aqua Mouse
- All ships proudly offer the Twist ‘n’ Spout Slide
I always suggest getting on the ship and doing the waterslides on the first day. Among other things, I’ve put together some great tips and helpful information. Time for a deep dive into everything thats DCL waterslides.
Which rides are on each Disney Ship?
As of writing this in 2020, there are 4 Disney cruise ships and 3 different waterslides. Let’s start with the smallest slide which is on the Disney Wonder, Disney Magic and the Disney Fantasy. This slide is called the Twist ‘n’ Spout, located on deck 12 of the Fantasy and deck 9 of the Magic and Wonder. This is a double looping waterslide measuring in at 250 feet long. It’s a beauty those who ride it will have an epic experience.
Next up is the AquaDunk which is a bespoke ride solely on the Disney Magic. Located on deck 13, it literally takes you over the edge of the ship in a 20 foot curvature. When they say exhilarating they really mean it here. You enter the waterslide via a clear loading capsule which has a see-through lid. Then suddenly the floor disappears like a trap door and you are away. Maybe take some extra underwear.
Lastly, is the AquaDuck. This signature slide is located on deck 12 aft of both the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy. It is truly a first of a kind waterslide at sea and was developed by those very talented Disney Imagineers. It is described as a wet and wild journey taking you in every direction including over the side of the ship and through the forward funnel. The slide is 765 feet long and gives you breathtaking views of the ocean and ship below.
Do not miss any of these if you get the chance!
Are there any restrictions?
Of course, when riding any Disney ride or waterslide there are restrictions and you must respect each and every one or run the risk of being refused entry. Each of the rides have different height restrictions and we will go through all three from smallest to largest in a moment. Let’s get into the general restrictions first which are in place across all waterslides.
It goes without saying (but i’m going to anyway) children that are not toilet trained cannot go on the waterslides. In fact, this is a rule straight from the United States public health service and CDC that is in place on every cruise ship regarding water leisure. You also can’t just stick a swim diaper on your child. However, there are designated water leisure areas for those little ones on all Disney ships. These are splash zones or wet play areas where swim diapers can be worn and should be if needed.
There are also restrictions on swim accessories. Let me take you through these so you are clear and don’t run into any unnecessary problems. I mean it is the most magical place at sea n’all. Pool noodles, rafts and floats are not allowed to be taken on any rides. The rules officially state they are not permitted on-board or in any of the pools at all. Maybe best to keep them deflated or buy them in port for beach use or off ship activities only. Now, you are allowed pool vests, coast guard personal flotation devices, water wings and floatations sewn into bathing suits. But please be aware you can’t take them on any of the waterslides. So please don’t try!
Let’s talk about goggles now. So goggles that fit over your eyes are permitted on the waterslides with exception of the AquaDunk where you will be asked to remove them. You can’t wear swim masks on any of the slides and snorkel tubes… don’t even go there!
Disney Waterslide Height Restrictions
Waterslide | Disney Ship | Min. Height Restriction |
Twist n Spout | Wonder, Magic & Fantasy | 38 Inches |
AquaDunk | Magic | 48 Inches |
AquaDuck | Dream, Fantasy | Solo: 54 InchesDouble: 42 Inches |
All waterslides have varying operating hours so it’s best to have a quick check of your navigator or the navigator app before taking a stroll up to the top decks.
Are there any additional activities on Disney Cruises?
When it comes to Disney you know that you will never run out of things to do. The Cruise Line is no exception and entertainment will always be at the heart of your vacation. So apart from the waterslides there are countless activities you can get involved with throughout the cruise and at almost any time of day. Maybe not when you’re supposed to be asleep, of course.
The entertainment teams onboard the ships are huge. Disney spent a lot of time and money making sure that everything is top-notch. For adults there is a dedicated cruise staff team and for kids there is the youth activities team. Both of which are present throughout the entire day for you and the wee ones. Dance parties, bingo, Jack Jack’s diaper dash, arts & crafts, karaoke, pirate night, quizzes, animation and other classes there’s even an art gallery and golf onboard. Pretty much anything you’re doing on your Disney vacation will involve the cruise staff. Think of them as your helpful Disney best buddy’s. A bit like an alive Siri or Alexa. In fact, I thought that a little too literally with one of them and now she’s my wife. Anyways, they are good fun and will go out of their way to make your Disney Cruise Line experience a fantastic one. Just going back a bit to clear things up a bit. My wife and I both worked on the ship. I wasn’t a guest and met up with a cruise staff member. That’s a big no-no and definitely not on the additional activities list. Ok this just got awkward. Lets swiftly jump down to the next paragraph……
In my opinion, the youth activities team probably run the best kids department at sea on the entire planet. These guys n’ gals are fantastic with kids, they put on shows, they have a huge area that no adults are allowed into and nearly every one of these bubbly individuals are absolute sweethearts. They have activities all through the day which cater to all different ages such as wake up with Disney Junior while older kids can hang out in Vibe. The fun never stops. I’m exhausted explaining it!
When you are not at sea and in dock you can go on trips or little adventures that are organised by the on-board port adventures team. You don’t want to miss out on any of their activities and I would suggest you go on at least one. It’s amazing what you can learn or experience if you just put yourself out there. The casino, in Atlantis, in Nassau….go there…thats all I’m saying!
Back to on-board activities and one of the great attractions of DCL is their main stage shows. These are Broadway-calibre shows performed by professional actors, singers and dancers and are of an impeccable standard. Some of the shows include Disney’s Frozen, Disney’s Believe, The Golden Mickeys, Twice Charmed, Aladdin and many many more. Make sure to check which shows will be showing during your vacation dates.
Then of course you have your very talented Disney Characters. You will get the chance to meet & greet with many of your favourites as well as benefit from shorter queues. You may even see them out and about while you’re relaxing round the pool. If you do see Micky give him a high-five from me and look out for that naughty Stitch!
Conclusion
So just to wrap things up we have discovered that Disney Cruise Line has some fantastic waterslides. The Twist n’ spout, the AquaDunk and the AquaDuck. For those young children that are are not permitted on any of the waterslides there are wet areas. Make sure you know and keep to the rules when using any of the slides or activity areas and remember they are there for your security and safety.
Whatever you decide to do on your vacation with DCL you know there will be activities all day every day. From your cruise staff to your youth activities and all of the shows going on throughout the ship, including live music, you’re going to have a great time.
