When you have 2 kids all you want to do is sit back, relax, cosy and snuggle up. You dream of a log cabin I hear you say? Well, that would be paradise. On the other hand, I would also like a trip to Disneyland. Ok, you got me I always go to Disneyland. But believe me, I have found a hotel that meets most Disney holiday makers snuggly requirements.
Disney Sequoia Lodge is an American frontier, lodge-themed hotel. This Disneyland Paris hotel has 1011 guest rooms that resemble structures and accommodations built around the beginning of the 20th century. Sitting on the far side of the lake, opposite the Disney Village, the complex emulates this style found in and around US National Parks around the same time.
The hotel is accessible with 2 restaurants, a hotel bar, game/play areas for families laundry service and a pool. I’ve found so much to do at Disney Sequoia Lodge. The hotel is 3rd closest to Disney, in walking time, after Disney New York New York – The Art of Marvel. Let’s sit back, relax and take a closer look.
A Bit of Disney Sequoia Lodge History
In The Beginning
Disney Sequoia Lodge opened in 1992 alongside Disneyland Paris (known then as Euro Disney). It was designed by a French architect called Antoine Grumbach. The hotel complex was designed to resemble the designs of early 1900s log cabins around American National Parks. The hotel is home to hundreds of Sequoias and thousands of other tree types. These are not native to the area so were imported from Canada and the West Coasts of the United States.
September 1996
A notable part of the hotel’s history was on the 8th of September 1996. At 6.45am, a fire broke out at the hotel lasting 3 hours causing substantial damage. Many guests were moved to Disney sister hotels and other accommodations around the area. Additionally, they were given a shopping spree at the park as compensation. Disney paid for the lot!
During the emergency, the hotel was evacuated in an incredible 20 mins. Most guests were up and ready to spend the day at the park. There were no deaths however 4 people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Thanks to the hotel safety procedures and staff training something much worse was avoided.
Since then there have been no incidents to this extent. It really is a beautifully designed and safe hotel.
Why Stay or Visit Disney Sequoia Lodge?
The complex consists of 7 buildings. The main building; where reception and most of the facilities are, Yellowstone Lodge, Yosemite Lodge, Sierra Lodge, Monterey Lodge, Big Sur Lodge and the Quarry Pool & Health Club.
Beautiful inside and out I explored a bit on my last visit and it just oozes class. There are 2 restaurants and 2 lounges/bars; The former being Beaver Creek Tavern, Hunters Grill, and the latter Golden Forest Lounge (members only), Redwood Bar and Lounge. The Redwood Bar and Lounge is the closest to the reception area and feels very central within the hotel’s main building. Below are a few images to give you a visual.
The hotel cast members/staff are lovely and friendly. They of course go out of their way to provide a Disney “Magical Experience”. Something that’s consistent worldwide with the Disney brand.
The great thing about this hotel is that it is accessible to all. I have found that at certain times of the year, rooms can be much cheaper and I mean substantially. If I want to stay here but the budget doesn’t quite stretch I can search for a specific time of year it will.
Notably, there is an area for small children called “Little Prairie Kids Corner”. Here kids can draw and play games.
Family members can join them or use the pool tables and table football games scattered around the main floor. I have more details further down.
I took many photos to give you a better feel for the hotel. I don’t take pictures of the hotel rooms as they are represented sufficiently on Disney’s website here.
I’ve put the pics into a handy video which can be found on my YouTube channel at this link and below in the video labelled Disney Sequoia Lodge1.1.
Getting to the Hotel
If you decide to drive or take the bus you can use the below address to get you to the hotel via GPS. I’ve also given you a map so you can pinpoint where the Disney Sequoia Lodge main entrance is:
Avenue Robert Schuman,
77700, Coupvray, France,
Phone Number – +33 825 30 05 00
Getting to the Parks and Shuttle Bus
I like to personally walk and take shuttle buses directly from the park as it allows me to give a reasonably accurate travel time. All anyone has to do is adjust the times to suit their own speed.
Travel to this hotel is fairly fast whether you are on foot or by bus. The hotel provides a free shuttle bus which takes about 6-7 mins with no traffic. The bus is the same one you would take to go to Disney Hotel New York New York – The Art of Marvel. It makes a stop here on route to the hotel from the park. The stop time is usually a quick drop off and pick up. If there is traffic it could take up to double the time. Here’s a video of the trip I took in real time.
Walking to the park is similar in time. It took me 3 – 4 minutes from the hotel to the Disney Village security gates. Then a further 7-8 minutes to the Disneyland park Entrance. I had a moderate pace for both. Here’s my video of walking from Disney Sequoia Lodge to the Disney Village security gates.
Walt Disney studio is around the same time and distance. But make sure you factor in queues.
Here are some stats to show a rough distance using my phone’s live GPS:
Disney Sequoia Lodge – Disneyland Paris
Travel Type | Distance (Miles) | Distance (Kilometeres) | Time |
---|---|---|---|
Shuttle Bus To The Hotel | 0.9 Mile | 1.5 km | 6 -10 Minutes |
Shuttle Bus To Disneyland Paris | 0.9 Miles | 1.5 km | 6-10 Minutes |
Walking Shuttle Route | 0.9 Miles | 1.4 km | 15 – 20 minutes |
Walking Along the River | 0.6 Miles | 950 m | 5 -10 Minutes |
Please note that I’ve given you a ballpark time in this table to account for speed or traffic
Rooms
The rooms at Disney Sequoia Lodge are separated over 5 buildings. I mentioned them earlier in this article but just to re-iterate they are; Yellowstone Lodge, Yosemite Lodge, Sierra Lodge, Monterey Lodge, Big Sur Lodge and the main building.
The Disney website gives a very accurate description of the rooms so check it out below to see what’s available.
Restaurants, Café & Bars
There are a few places to eat and drink at Disney Sequoia Lodge.
These are:
- Hunters Grill
- Beaver Creek Tavern
- Redwood Bar and Lounge
- Golden Forest Lounge
Each venue has its own unique menu and theme. You can book a table via the Disneyland Paris APP, website or directly at the venue. You can also book by calling the hotel directly on +33 825 30 05 00. It is also worthwhile noting that you do not need to be staying at the hotel in order to use these Restaurants, Café & Bars. You can make reservations on the Disneyland Paris App.
Pools, Spa and Gym Facilities
The pool at Disney Sequoia Lodge is located in the Quarry Pool and Health Club building. This is to the right of the car park and shuttle bus main entrance as if you were entering the hotel. It connects, via a sheltered walkway, to the Big Sur building and is directly behind the Yellowstone Lodge building.
There is an indoor and outdoor section of the Quarry Pool. The outdoor section is closed in cold weather as it gets pretty chilly in winter. The indoor pool is open 7am – 10pm, 7 days a week.
Laundry
There is a laundry service at Disney Sequoia Lodge. However, they do not provide a laundry room for you to do your own washing. Fortunately, if you are desperate you are allowed to head over to Sequoia’s sister hotel Disney Hotel Cheyenne where there is a laundry room for use by Disney Hotel guests.
Both hotels are easy to get to on foot. You can also take a shuttle to Disney and change onto one of the free shuttle buses for either hotel. I mean, if you don’t have a lot of washing it’s easy enough to walk. If you have your own transport then you are good to go.
For the Kids
The Little Prarie Kids Corner is a small play area situated on the main floor close to the Redwood Bar and Lounge. There are:
- Tables where kids can draw and do crafts
- Books and teddys
- 5-pin bowling set
- A large connect 4 game
- A games mat
- And a chalkboard
There are a few other small things. This area is perfect for small children to play while you relax. Or you could join in and get beaten at connect 4 like I always do… I know embarrassing!
On the outside of the kid’s corner are some tables with chairs and a small table with comfy seats. There’s a wall between the 2 areas that’s low. So perfect to sit, chat or have a drink while the little ones go wild.
Northwest Passage Boutique
The Boutique is located on the main floor near the “Golden Forest Lounge” and “Redwood Bar and Lounge”. There is a mix of Disney souvenirs, pins, kid’s costumes, weather-appropriate clothing, teddies, drinks and pretty much anything you would find in a Disney boutique/store. It’s not a huge boutique but I would say an average size. There are a couple of entrances to the boutique.
Electric Car Chargers
Like most good hotels nowadays, Disney Sequoia Lodge provides Electric Car chargers in their car parks. Something that is much of a relief to EV drivers. No longer do you have to drop your bags and then go look for a charger on a random street corner or park and ride. Although, if you need to there are lots of EV chargers in the area, on random street corners, at the local Esso petrol station and at other Disney hotels. So you will not be stuck.
There are a lot of car chargers in the main hotel car park. Some of these are back-to-back and allow better use of the spaces. Others are of course, on their own. But each charger has two sockets. You do however have to use your own charging cable.
There are also Disabled parking spaces with chargers where the disabled have priority charging. I am unsure whether non-disabled people can charge here as the way the line is painted does make it look like it’s priority and not specific. I have not been able to get a definitive answer but when I do I will update it here.
I have a few pictures below that show the areas at the hotel.
I’m waiting on some confirmation on cost and networks etc. I will update this paragraph when the information is confirmed. So come back and check when you can.
Standard Amenities
In my experience, Disneyland Paris Hotels provide a minimum standard of amenities across all accommodations available to all guests. Make sure to contact reception if you need more details. Below is a representation of what may be available.
Let’s Round It Up!
Disneyland Paris and Disney Sequoia Lodge have put a lot of work into maintaining a high standard at this hotel. A 3-star rating in terms of classification is a little low, in my opinion, when considering the aesthetic feel. It gives off something a little classier. Disney Hotel Cheyenne, in comparison, is spot on with its 3-star classification.
Guests have full use of the restaurants, bars and facilities. Even as a non-resident, you can use the facilities but make sure you check if a booking is needed. The leisure facilities are for all ages and include pools, a gym, a kid’s corner and table games scattered throughout.
So that was our look at Disney Sequoia Lodge. I hope this has been helpful. If you would like to know about other Disney or Partner hotels in the area feel free to check out more of my Disney articles.
As always have fun.
See You Real Soon.
