Are there medical facilities at Disney World?

Simply, you do not want to get hurt or fall ill when you are on a Disney Vacation. But in the event you do its good to have a reference to look at. There are a fair amount of options at Disney World.

Nurse led first aid stations are available to the public during opening hours in all Disney Parks. Additionally, On-call doctor, walk-in clinics and hospitals in the surrounding Florida area are available to all guests and cast members 24hrs, 7 days a week.

Now we know what’s available it’s time to ‘whip out’ our stethoscopes and take a closer look at the facilities.

What medical facilities can I use in Disney World?

First Aid Stations

These are professionally trained, nurse run and located in not only the 4 Disney World parks but also the 2 waterparks. Emergency or non-emergency situations can be dealt with and if your a big baby like me you can get a band-aid or ice for that wee bump on your knee. But enough of my manliness. If you’re looking for some over-the-counter medicines, such as Tylenol, you can ask a nurse and they will most likely be happy to provide it. Speaking of happy you don’t have to pay a penny for these items either. Other services such as medication refrigeration, changing areas for medical needs, private rooms as well as cots for medical rest, storage of personal medical equipment and health supplies are available. There is also a baby care centre that can be utilized for nursing and contains a microwave. If you need basic supplies or a blood pressure monitor, an Iv Pole or simply some privacy for a medical need you can get this at the first-aid stations.

ParkLocationDirections
Magic Kingdom ParkIn Between, The Crystal Palace A Buffet with Character and Casey’s Corner.Enter the park and walk down main Street. When you reach Casey’s Corner on your left, walk in that direction till you see a path/road on the left. Walk down that path/road and it should be right in front of you.
EpcotThe back of the Epcot Experience Building. Near Mexico.Once you enter the park walk clockwise (to the left) of the Dome. Once you reach the Epcot Experience Building head round the back and you should see the first aid facility.
Disney’s Hollywood StudiosTo the left as you enter the park.As you enter the park you should see it on your left.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme ParkNext to Creature Comforts, Terra Treats and Disney Vacation ClubEnter the park and walk past Oasis then over the river. Make your way past Island Mercantile to the left then passing Pizzafari head towards discovery island trails and onto creature comforts. Turn to the left just before Disney Vacation Club and you should see it on your left.
Disney’s Blizzard Beach WaterparkBetween Beach Haus and Lottawatta LodgeEnter the park and pass Beach house. Look to your Left and you should see it. If you have went as far as Lottawatta Lodge you’ve gone to far.
Disney’s typhoon lagoon Water ParkBetween Leaning Palms and Happy Landings.Enter the park and make your way to Leaning Palms. as you pass it look to your left and you should see it.

As you have probably noticed all First aid facilities are, “to the left, to the left”.  Hmmm, I think they may have designed it like that. Clever Mr Disney!

Doctors To Your Room

There might be a time where you will need to see a doctor and unfortunately Disney does not have any doctors on site. However, as I said at the top somewhere, you do have medical facilities available 24/7 and what I meant by that is on-call doctors are available around the clock. Although there are many different on-call medical services available I’ve found, through my research, a couple of providers that stand out. ‘Doctors On-Call’ is a service that will come to your resort room any time. They are a fast service and you can get more information or set up an appointment by calling them night or day on 407-399-3627. Another great service is ‘Physicians Room Service’ which is part of “Centra Care Walk-In Urgent Care” which we will speak about in a minute. This service is fantastic and again is from the comfort of your resort room. Using these services can save a lot of time and boredom having to wait in a clinic to be seen.

This brings us to offsite facilities.

Walk-in and hospitals

You also have the option of visiting a walk-in clinic or a local hospital if you so wish to do so. Centra Care Walk-In Urgent Care, as mentioned above, affiliated with Florida hospital in Lake Buena vista, is a local option open seven days a week. This is not a 24/7 option but they are open on weekdays from 8 am till midnight and on weekends 8am till 8pm. If you’d like to know more information here’s their website www.centracare.org or give them a call on 407-934-2273. As an added bonus they will give you a free ride to and from Florida attractions such as Disney World.

In an urgent emergency you can always go to Florida Celebration Hospital and if you need help call 911 For a bit more information visit their website.

There are quite a few different options off-site. In my personal opinion it’s best to try and get into a clinic thats a little bit further away from Disney as waiting times tend to be less.

If in doubt go have a chat with one of the nurses at the first-aid stations and they will help you find some urgent care.

Does Disney World have a pharmacy?

As of 2020, there is still no physical pharmacy in Disney World but with plenty of options around there’s really no need for any. If you really need to get that prescription or over-the-counter medicine pharmacies such as Walgreens, CVS and Publix are among some of the closest options.

Some people do however get the impression that there is a pharmacy in Disney World and it’s because of a fantastic company called ‘Turner Drugs’ who deliver straight to the hotel reception. If it weren’t easy enough, if you’re out and about and desperate for some medicine they will deliver to any of the first-aid stations on any of the parks. They do this for a small fee of $5 which is worth it, especially if you’re in a tight spot. It also means that you can just get on with your day and your medicine will come to you.

Picking up over-the-counter medicine from Hotel shops and gas stations on site is simple enough too. If in doubt have a chat with reception or the nurses at the first-aid stations.

There are many more pharmacies within the area and I believe that most, or maybe all, Walgreens are open 24/7. I’ve not listed only Walgreens as I feel it’s more beneficial to see a diverse selection. You then have a choice to suit your needs.

Conclusion

Always make sure with any of the above services that you have your medical insurance or at least a copy of your card as costs can amount up. With pharmacies this only applies if your insurance gives you cover, so check before you go. It may be a good idea, if possible, to carry a copy of your medical records. Unless they are the size of a filing cabinet that would be a bad idea. Especially if you have back problems… Moving on…

Disney world facilitates many medical options. From Disney’s First-Aid Stations to On-Call Doctors, Walk-In Centres and Hospitals. Any of these will help you if you are in need. If in doubt talk to your hotel receptionist or go straight to a first-aid station and have a word with the nurse.

If you need medicine quick, or even at a moderate pace, you can easily get to one of the many pharmacies off Disney World property. Deliveries can also be arranged directly to your hotel or to a Disney first-aid station.

I hope you have enjoyed a good read and this answers your questions. Remember to arrive  prepared and I know you will enjoy your Disney vacation. As always have fun!
